Welcome to the Lansdown Club - we have wonderful facilities providing the opportunity to play Tennis, Squash, Racketball and Croquet in lovely surroundings
With four well-maintained squash courts, the Lansdown Club has the best facilities for squash in the area. These courts are used primarily for Squash and Racketball, but additionally for fitness classes and Table Tennis.
Racketball is also known as Squash 57 – one of the fastest growing sports in the UK and not the same as the Racquetball game played in the United States. Racketball is particularly popular among tennis members seeking an indoor, aerobic sport, who find it arguably easier to adapt to than regular Squash.
The club has one Table Tennis table which is stored folded-up outside Court 2, along with all the equipment you need to use it. Members are welcome to play Table Tennis by booking Court 2, wheeling the table in and setting it up, however the priority court use is for squash/racketball – please avoid booking for Table Tennis at peak time (5-7.30pm on weekdays) or when club play is happening on the other courts.
PLEASE NOTE: you must wear CLEAN, NON-MARKING shoes when using any of our squash courts
The Lansdown Club offers team squash throughout the year for all levels, an annual Club Championship, a Handicap Tournament and Box Leagues for both Squash and Racketball – all very popular and well attended. We are also proud to count among our members several players who compete at the World Masters championships.
We also hold exhibition matches and in recent years we have had matches featuring Top 10 players in the world including Marwan El Shorbagy. Not only does this give the opportunity to see Squash and Racketball played at the highest level but also the chance to play these players as well!
The club has a shop for equipment and advice, and on-site restringing services.
If you are new to the sports and fear they are “too fast” or “you are not good enough”, then be reassured that they are fully inclusive sports – where two players of differing ability can play a game with both getting something out of it. The buzz from playing squash is like no other sport, it puts such a smile on your face just from the pleasure of playing the game – if Andy Murray played squash he’d be unrecognizable 🙂
